This is the area of Astrid Frisch-Jordan, operations manager for Ecotours de México and professional whale watcher. Soon the townspeople called him because of the trapped animal.
“The first day we thought, 'Oh, what a shame, but we can't participate, we're not experts,'” he recalls.
As the hours passed, the public's desire to perform grew. "The second day we said, 'Okay, we have to do what we can.' And then [on] the third day we went out [to] the sea with gardening tools and our knowledge of whales.
Thus began seven dangerous hours in which he and a few other like-minded locals attempted to free the animal with equipment designed to cut through vegetation. Meanwhile, the other whales were trying to abandon them.
